The game offers players a chance to go solo through the wastelands of Chernarus, or team players can interact with their friends in multiplayer mode. Helpful video tutorials are made available for first time players who may need tutoring in specific aspects of the game like foraging for food, treating injuries and wounds and even eating and drinking. It is advisable to talk to other players for advice in surviving the difficult early stages of the post apocalyptic game.
There are a wide selection of (damaged and rusted) vehicles available, both civilian and military. Buses, pick ups, tractors and amusingly a Skoda Octavia are left lying around in various states of disrepair. Further foraging is required to obtain the missing parts to get the vehicles motoring again. Military hardware like Hummers, ATVs, off roads and helicopters are also available in later levels.
The game boasts a wide variety of weaponry, but the inventory system feels somewhat counter intuitive and cumbersome. To pick up a melee weapon like a crowbar or a hatchet, the mouse must scroll over the weapon while it is on the ground. An indicator mini screen asks if the player wishes to store the weapon in the inventory, but it is not ready to be used against the zombie hordes until right clicking the weapon and pressing 'R' to reload. Ranged firearms are common place and diverse, from crossbows and Glock 17s to Lee Enfield and AK47's.

Should You Buy DayZ Standalone?
If you have played the DayZ Mod for ARMA 2, and liked it, I would suggest you get in early for 2 reasons. The first reason is that it will save you money to buy it now. The second reason is so that you will be familiar with how things work. There are a lot of new features and items and more are on the way.
If you are new to DayZ, you might be turned off by the lack of content, bugs, glitches, etc. If you aren’t aware, DayZ Standalone is still Alpha right now. Here is the disclaimer. You’ll see this disclaimer again, but it’s important to read and understand it.

You can buy DayZ directly through STEAM. Here are a few simple steps:
- Create a STEAM account and download the STEAM client.
- It helps to already be logged in to your STEAM account before you go through the check out process. So go to store.steampowered.com and log in.
- In the search box, type “dayz” without the quotes and press the search button.
- Click on DayZ and enter your birthdate, since it’s required. Click on “add to cart”.
- Click on “Purchase for myself” and follow the rest of the checkout process.
How to Download DayZ Standalone

Find DayZ on the inventory screen, click on it and on the bottom right you should see “Add to my game library”.
If you purchased the game through the STEAM client, a display box will appear telling you that you have successfully purchased and are ready to install. Click on “Finish” and the game will begin downloading. Once the game has completed downloading, you will be able to play DayZ by going to your games library and clicking on “Play.”
If you purchased DayZ through Bohemia Interactive or another source, you may have a STEAM gift code or product key. In this case, load your STEAM Client. Click on “games” at the top. And then click on “Activate A Product on STEAM…” After you agree to the terms, you can paste your product key and follow the directions. The game should automatically download if you were successful in activating the product key.

When will the game be finished? When will the beta begin?The beta is expected to be introduced in late 2014. The final game has no date as of yet.

What’s the difference between regular DayZ on STEAM and the Supporter Edition through Bohemia Interactive? Personally, the digital map is useless since DayZDb.com is free and updated frequently and accordingly.
